The Dyslexia Project

"Dyslexia affects 1 in 10 children, an average of 2-3 children per classroom, 1.2 million children in the UK"

UK House of Commons

“This project is inspired by my challenges growing up with dyslexia”

Having severe dyslexia has had a huge impact on the person I am, affecting the way I think & work creatively. This drives me to raise awareness about the marked lack of support for adults with Dyslexia

“Holly’s proposal speaks to our desire to support local artists who prioritise accessibility, while also striving to create innovative, high quality performances and projects that provide audiences and participants with exceptional experiences” - New Wolsey Theatre

“Her determination to explore dyslexia and adult illiteracy is truly inspiring” - John Wright, Director

The Dyslexia Project is a new theatre show exploring and celebrating Dyslexia supported by New Wolsey Theatre, The Dyslexia Association & Arts Council England led by Suffolk artist and dyslexic, Holly Delefortie.

The Dyslexia Project is about celebrating the challenges and misconceptions surrounding Dyslexia, shinning a light on the day to day struggles of those with hidden learning disabilities. The Project is created for the people who slipped through the net, the struggles of Dyslexic adults & those with a hidden learning disability and is created and facilitated by Dyslexic artists. This Project, in Autumn 2025, delivers:

1) Initial creation and performance of, outdoor version of show commissioned by N’abled Festival

2) Workshops for adults and children in Suffolk

3) A 2 Week R&D to explore the show in Ipswich

In 2026, we will finish the creation of a show which can tour to both traditional and non traditional spaces. We will also look to develop a series of workshops that allow dyslexic people to express their creativity and develop their potential.

Workshops

8th October - 5th November (every Wednesday)

We want to hear from fellow dyslexic people in Suffolk who are willing to share their dyslexic story,  what Dyslexia means to them and have their voices heard.

These stories will inform the creation of a nation-wide touring show and workshop programme for dyslexic people to express their creativity and develop their potential.
